A Detailed Recreation for Huntsville International Airport

Huntsville International Airport, officially known as Carl T. Jones Field, serves as a key aviation and aerospace hub in northern Alabama. Located around 10 miles southwest of downtown Huntsville, the airport is notable not only for its commercial operations but also for its role as a licensed spaceport — serving as the designated landing site for Sierra Space’s Dream Chaser spaceplane returning from Low Earth Orbit.

The newly released freeware scenery for Huntsville International brings a handcrafted and highly detailed representation of the airport to the simulator. Every model in this package has been individually built, offering an authentic and cohesive depiction of the real facility. A particularly notable inclusion is the set of 25 open hangars featuring animated doors. Twenty-four of these share the same design, with doors that rotate outward and slide back inside the hangar. These animations are active between 6 a.m. and midnight local time. Outside of those hours, you can manually open or close the doors by hiding or un-hiding the flight yoke.

All taxiways and signage have been renamed to match the latest official airport diagram. While the developer notes that the terminal ramp area sits at a slightly higher elevation than the hotel and parking garage in reality, this terrain difference was not modeled due to limited elevation data. The package requires Windy Things and the ESD Emerald Object Library from the in-sim Marketplace to function correctly.
