Aerosoft Releases Mount Everest Airports Vol. 2

Aerosoft has launched the second volume of its Everest Airports series for Microsoft Flight Simulator, focusing on two unique airfields nestled in the challenging terrain of the Himalayas: Phaplu and Kangel Danda. Priced at $9.99 excl. VAT, this add-on offers you a chance to explore the rugged and scenic environments near Mount Everest, with each airfield presenting its own set of challenges and rewards.

Phaplu Airport, the highlight of this package, is the closest airfield to Mount Everest that is connected to the national road network. As tourism in the region continues to grow, Phaplu has seen an increase in scheduled flights, establishing itself as a gateway to the world’s highest peak. The airport’s location is both picturesque and demanding — situated along a slope, with the apron cut into the terrain and the tower and terminal perched on a high wall that runs alongside the runway. Pilots will need to exercise caution when taxiing to avoid clipping their wingtips on this imposing structure. Additionally, the airport’s operations are limited to the morning hours due to the strong winds that whip through the valley, with gusts reaching up to 43 knots. These challenging wind conditions make for a thrilling and realistic flight experience.

As a bonus, the package also includes Kangel Danda Airport, another demanding airfield set atop a mountain between Rumjatar and Lukla. The runway at Kangel Danda is flanked by steep cliffs at both ends, allowing aircraft to gain ground clearance rapidly after takeoff. This airfield, which has been largely inactive due to damaged communications equipment, offers a unique and isolated setting that is sure to test the skills of any virtual pilot.

The Everest Airports Vol. 2 add-on features highly detailed 3D terrain models of both Phaplu and Kangel Danda airports, complete with high-resolution, photorealistic textures. The newly constructed secondary apron at Phaplu is also included, along with a variety of immersive elements such as a nearby monastery, animated people and animals, ground traffic including tuk-tuks, realistic night lighting, and various ambient sounds.
