February's Picks: 4 Highly Recommended Freeware Airports

On Flightsim.to tons of add-ons are uploaded every day. It's easy to get lost if you are not checking for new additions daily. Today we want to present you three community-created freeware airports that we think deserve to be mentioned.

San Diego Montgomery - Gibbs Exec Airport (KMYF)

Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport (IATA: MYF, ICAO: KMYF, FAA LID: MYF), formerly known as Montgomery Field and Gibbs Field, is a public airport in San Diego, California, United States, six miles north of downtown San Diego. The airport covers 456 acres (185 ha) and has three runways, one public and two private helipads. Vincent Bazillio released this airport back in 2021, but it has been updated in February 2022 to implement further improvements. You can download San Diego Montgomery here.

RJFT - Kumamoto Airport Japan

This airfield is located in Japan. The Kumamoto Airport is currently under construction for a new terminal building and is scheduled to open in 2023. Kumamoto Airport is a small commercial airport in the city of Kumamoto in Japan. Kumamoto Airport is considered a 2nd class airport under Japanese legislation. Except for a flight connection to Incheon Airport in South Korea, only destinations within Japan are served. The airport is located about 13 km northeast of Kumamoto city center in the municipal area of the small town of Mashiki. You can download RJFT here.

KHOU Houston William P. Hobby Airport

William P. Hobby Airport is a U.S. regional airport located near Houston in the state of Texas. It was named after former Texas Governor William Pettus Hobby. Hobby Airport is Houston's oldest commercial airport. Before the construction of the new Houston Intercontinental Airport in 1969, it was Houston's only airport. It was temporarily closed to commercial traffic, but has been operating as a commercial airport again since 1971 due to the increase in air traffic. Community creator Starseed reworked this airport throughout the entire facility. Many fixes and improvements have been implemented from the original default airport including the depiction of RWY 36-18 closer. You can download KHOU here.

ENZV Stavanger - Sola

Stavanger Airport, Sola, is Norway's third busiest airport with both international and domestic flights in addition to serving as a major hub for offshore North Sea oil installation helicopter traffic. The Royal Norwegian Air Force 330 squadron operates AW101 "SAR Queen" search and rescue helicopters from the previously military east side of the airport. Just north of the field is an air history museum. Originally opened in 1937 as one of Europe's first concrete covered airports. Community creator WombiiActual launched this airfield back in 2020, but it has just received an major update including a custom passenger terminal, helicopter terminal, helicopter hangar, firestation and many more improvements.
