Flying Fries Updated Hughes XF-11 to Version 1.2

The Hughes XF-11, originally developed by the Hughes Aircraft Company for the USAF in 1943, boasted impressive specifications for its time, including a ceiling altitude of 44,000 feet, a cruise speed of 300 knots at 30,000 feet, and a remarkable range of 5,000 miles. Despite its promising capabilities, the aircraft met an unfortunate end during its first flight, halting its production prematurely. Flying Fries has recently released an update for their highly acclaimed Microsoft Flight Simulator rendition of the Hughes XF-11 aircraft, bringing it to version 1.2. This update introduces several significant enhancements and fixes.

Among the notable changes in Version 1.2 are:

  • Propellers now stop spinning when the engine is off and the prop is feathered
  • A new livery, named "Red Tails" has been added to the XF-11
  • The clipboard's SPEED page now displays speeds in either MPH or knots based on the user's selected unit
  • Various instrument improvements have been implemented, including enhancements to fuel flow, fuel pressure, and QNH on the altimeter.
  • Pilots can now reattach the canopy after jettisoning it using the "Fix my plane" option on the clipboard
  • The user manual has been updated to reflect the latest changes and features of the aircraft
  • Animation fixes have been made, including the battery ammeter needle charge/discharge animation
  • Refueling can now be operated with engines ON, and the fuel truck no longer reappears automatically after landing
  • Several fixes related to liveries have been implemented, addressing issues such as round spots on cowl flaps and rivet alignments
  • The Raw Steel livery has been improved, particularly its overall steel texture

Flying Fries' virtual replica of the XF-11 aims to capture the essence of this iconic aircraft, crafted with high-quality modeling and texturing. From its complex electrical and fuel systems to its interactive exterior items, the XF-11 offers a truly immersive flying experience. The update also introduces random failures of varying severity, adding an extra layer of challenge for daring pilots. Additionally, the clipboard feature simplifies tasks such as setting options, checking failures, and handling refueling without the need to open in-game menus. The update is now available for free for purchasers of the Hughes XF-11 on Flightsim.to.
