Freeware Bonn-Hangelar Airfield Released

Bonn-Hangelar Airfield (EDKB), situated northeast of Bonn, Germany, holds a distinguished place in aviation history as one of the oldest operational airfields in the region. Originally established in the early 20th century, it has served a range of roles, from military to civil aviation. Today, the airfield caters to general aviation, flight training, and recreational flying, drawing visitors with its scenic location near the Rhine River and its proximity to Bonn. The airfield supports various operations, including regional emergency services and helicopter activity, and is a hub for both motorized and glider flight training. Hangar8’s latest release for Microsoft Flight Simulator brings Bonn-Hangelar Airfield to life with a detailed and authentic representation.

The scenery incorporates over 100 custom-designed 3D objects, including hangars, buildings, and structures, all created from scratch using high-resolution reference images. The layout and markings of the airfield have been recreated to mirror their real-world counterparts, complete with realistic runway, taxiway, and apron details. Immersive features such as dynamic animations, custom night lighting, and static aircraft with authentic local liveries provide an engaging experience.

Bonn-Hangelar’s civil and Federal Police aprons are both included, with a user-controlled taxiway gate for additional interactivity. While primarily designed for Flight Simulator 2020, the scenery is compatible with Flight Simulator 2024, with only minor issues reported during testing. This add-on is freeware and now available on Flightsim.to. If you enjoy the scenery, consider supporting hangar8 by donating to help continue their work on such detailed projects.
