Freeware DC Designs F/A-18C Hornet Released

DC Designs has fully converted their original Microsoft F/A-18C Hornet for FSX Acceleration to native Microsoft Flight Simulator format for distribution as freeware only. The team partnered with CJ Simulations to bring this product to the community.

We have converted this aircraft as carefully as we can, integrating the avionics of the F/A-18E along with the sound, while also creating custom code for further systems and a completely new flight model that features the F/A-18C's legendary high-alpha flight capabilities.

The F/A-18 Hornet is a twin-engine multirole combat aircraft manufactured by McDonnell Douglas, part of Boeing since 1997. Its maiden flight took place in November 1978, followed by entry into service in January 1983. The F/A-18 was designed primarily for use on the United States Navy's Nimitz-class aircraft carriers. Its flexibility in engaging ground, sea, and air targets at long range makes it the primary offensive and defensive component of a U.S. aircraft carrier battle group.

The airplane has been tested with the Jayshrike moving aircraft carrier add-on, along with significant flight testing to ensure the flight envelope is as good as they could get it. Microsoft Flight Simulator's native effects have also been added, along with selectable fuel tanks and weapons load-out. The team also confirmed that all of the many hundreds of add-on liveries that were available for the FSX version of this aircraft can easily be converted to work with the new version and they have added new PBR layers to enhance the appearance of the existing textures.
