Freeware Fairey Swordfish Mk1 for Microsoft Flight Simulator

The Fairey Swordfish, a legendary British torpedo bomber, played a pivotal role during World War II despite its seemingly outdated design as a biplane. Often referred to as the "Stringbag", this aircraft gained fame for its involvement in significant naval engagements, such as the attack on the Italian fleet at Taranto and the crucial strike on the German battleship Bismarck. Its versatility and reliability made it a staple in various missions, including torpedo bombing, anti-submarine warfare, and reconnaissance, cementing its place in military aviation history.

You can now experience the Fairey Swordfish Mk1 in Microsoft Flight Simulator thanks to the newly released freeware addon by smithington1996. The aircraft, originally developed for FSX and P3D by Flying Stations/Bravo Zulu, has been fully converted to a native addon for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The conversion retains the high-quality design of the original model, with detailed inside and outside visuals now in native GLTF format.

Among the standout features of this addon are the upscaled liveries, which have been enhanced to 4K resolution, and a fully functional cockpit with working instruments and controls. The addon emphasizes historical accuracy, including design elements such as multiplayer-visible wing folding and tailhook animations. It's worth noting that while the addon offers an impressive range of features, it does not include a sound pack.

This project has been made possible through the authorization and support of the original creators, with special thanks to Flying Stations/Bravo Zulu for the use of the FSX model and SpectreSimShorts for the extensive texture work throughout the model. The addon is available for free on Flightsim.to.
