Freeware: Laramie Regional Airport Released

Nestled in the high plains of southeastern Wyoming at an elevation of over 7,200 feet, Laramie Regional Airport is one of those airports that carries more history than its modest size might suggest. Originally constructed in 1934 as part of a federally funded Civil Works Administration initiative that created or improved roughly 1,000 airports across the United States during the Great Depression, the airfield was named Brees Field in honor of Brigadier General Herbert Jay Brees, a Laramie native and U.S. Army officer. One of the original hangars from that era still stands on the field today, a tangible connection to the airport's nearly century-old past. Today, Laramie Regional serves a mix of commercial, general aviation, and aerial firefighting operations, with SkyWest Airlines operating daily United Express service to Denver International Airport.

Community Developer kkillough has released a detailed freeware scenery package for the airfield, marking the 1,345th airport in their ongoing project to recreate airports for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The add-on is compatible with both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024, and replaces the simulator's default airport representation with a far more accurate and detailed rendition of the real-world facility.

All buildings in the package are custom-built using on-the-ground reference photography. The scenery includes the airport's modern terminal, which opened to the public in February 2021, as well as the Cowboy Aviation FBO facility that was established in 2015. The University of Wyoming research center located on the airfield is also represented, alongside the various hangars that populate the airport grounds.

KLAR terminal detail

After downloading, you simply extract the main file and place it in your MSFS 2020 or MSFS 2024 Community folder. A separate library file is included for each simulator version, and you'll need to ensure the correct one is placed in your Community folder alongside the main scenery package. For those who enjoy flying the Rocky Mountain West or hopping regional routes through Wyoming and Colorado, KLAR makes for a compelling destination or departure point.
