Freeware Military Aircraft Grumman J2F Duck Released

Flyndive has released the Grumman J2F Duck for Microsoft Flight Simulator, bringing to life this unique amphibious aircraft that served across all branches of the U.S. military from the mid-1930s through World War II. Known for its versatility as a single-engine, biplane amphibian, the Duck played roles ranging from reconnaissance to air-sea rescue missions.

The Grumman J2F Duck is a native conversion from a model originally developed for Microsoft Flight Simulator X by Paul Domingue. Flyndive has enhanced the original with various updates and modifications, making it fully compatible with the modern Microsoft Flight Simulator environment. Key improvements include converting textures to the MSFS format, refining modeling and animations, and upgrading the flight model and engine configurations. Systems and lighting have also been updated, alongside new features like the addition of an ADF radio and munitions, as well as revamped sound effects and visual effects.

The release includes three variants of the Duck: the J2F4, J2F5, and J2F6. These are complemented by 15 distinct liveries, giving you plenty of options to customize your aircraft. Notably, one livery in the J2F6 variant replicates the aircraft from the film Murphy’s War, complete with a unique model featuring missing engine cowling, canopies, and radome for a film-accurate representation.

Flyndive recommends reading the included Operation Manual, which provides tips for flying and operating the Duck effectively. The developer also plans to release a paint kit as a separate download in the future.
