A new freeware mod for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 brings the rugged beauty of Scotland to life by adding a range of iconic landmarks and points of interest that were missing from the default game. Scotland’s dramatic landscapes, ancient castles, and rich history make it an ideal setting for virtual exploration, and this mod by mv46 aims to enhance that experience significantly.

The base version of the mod features a variety of castles and historic sites, including Blackness Castle, Tantallon Castle, Hermitage Castle, Castle Stalker, and Dunstaffnage Castle. You'll also find landmarks like Connel Bridge, McCaig’s Tower, Dunollie Castle, Kerrera Lighthouse, and the Clachan Bridge, commonly known as the "Bridge over the Atlantic". Additionally, the mod enriches the areas around Glasgow and Edinburgh with POI markers for photogrammetry landmarks such as Bothwell Castle, Celtic Park, the National Monument of Scotland, and Murrayfield Stadium.

The first update to the mod (v1.0.1) adds coverage of the Outer Hebrides, a remote archipelago off Scotland’s west coast known for its striking landscapes and cultural heritage. This update includes landmarks like Kisimul Castle, Lews Castle, the ancient Calanais Standing Stones, Lewis War Memorial, Butt of Lewis Lighthouse, St Clements Church at Rodel, and Scolpaig Tower. The update also improves the representation of Stornoway Harbour and Castlebay, making use of superspud’s static and moving boat libraries to add more life to these coastal areas.

In addition to the new landmarks, the update addresses vegetation issues on the Hebrides Islands by removing unnecessary foliage while carefully restoring essential forested areas. Two watermasks have been added at Laxdale Bay near Stornoway Airport and at Traigh Mheilein. To fully experience the enhanced harbors, you’ll need to download superspud’s Static Boats 3D Model Library and Moving Boats 3D Model Library, both available for free on Flightsim.to.
This mod is a great addition for anyone looking to explore Scotland’s iconic landscapes and historic sites more authentically. As always with freeware add-ons, consider supporting the mod creator if you enjoy their work. You can download the mod from Flightsim.to.
