Global AI Ship Traffic Version 6.0 Released for Microsoft Flight Simulator

The Global AI Ship Traffic add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator has been updated to Version 6.0 and is now back on Flightsim.to - offering a more immersive and comprehensive simulation of worldwide maritime traffic. Developed by Henrik Nielsen (KL791) and a team of flight simulation enthusiasts from around the globe, the freeware add-on introduces over 1,000 unique ship models and more than 2,000 liveries, representing various types of vessels from different regions.

Version 6.0 of GAIST Ultra includes significant updates, such as new ship models, enhanced route coverage, and optimized textures and routes. This expansion increases traffic density and improves system performance by reducing file sizes. Among the newly added ships are several cruise liners, including those from AIDA Cruises and Cunard's Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria. A diverse array of other vessels, such as fishing boats, car carriers, oil tankers, and yachts, are also included to closely mimic real-world maritime traffic patterns. One of the standout features of this release is the coverage of over 300 ferry routes, complete with specific ferry models, as well as region-specific naval ships.

Although this update brings many improvements, a few known issues persist. For instance, ship models do not yet have hard decks, and some effects are best viewed under specific wind conditions. Occasionally, ships may behave oddly in heavy scenery areas due to limitations within the Microsoft Flight Simulator engine.  Traffic settings for ships and ferries should be set to 5-10% to avoid conflicts with other AI ship traffic.
