Kigali International Airport Receives New Freeware Upgrade

Kigali International Airport (HRYR), Rwanda’s main gateway, has received a new freeware upgrade for Microsoft Flight Simulator courtesy of developer Chak991. Known as one of East Africa’s most important aviation hubs, Kigali serves as the base for RwandAir and a key connection point between Central Africa and destinations across the continent and beyond.

The update introduces a custom-built terminal, control tower, and light poles, replacing the generic default structures with accurate models that reflect the airport’s real-world appearance. Ground markings, taxi lines, and lighting have been reworked to improve realism during both day and night operations. In addition, ground textures have been refreshed, giving the apron and taxiway surfaces a more defined and realistic look. Most of the surrounding airport buildings have also been replaced or updated.

While the developer notes that not all areas have been fully edited and minor bugs may still appear, this freeware project represents a solid enhancement over the default Microsoft Flight Simulator depiction of HRYR.
