KVUO - Pearson Airfield - Vancouver Freeware Released
Pearson Airfield in Vancouver, WA is one of the oldest continuously-operating airports in the world, with a rich history dating back to 1912. The airport has been recreated in Microsoft Flight Simulator by chazy998, who has done an excellent job of bringing the airport to life. The airport is home to primarily single-engine piston aircraft and is occupied by Aero Maintenance, who offers flight training and aircraft maintenance. Vancouver's Historic Trust also owns and operates a small museum at the airport, with the intention of inspiring the youth of the surrounding area and getting them interested in aviation.
The scenery includes all hangars and airport buildings, which are hand-modeled to the best of the author's ability based on their own images and those on the web. Two external model libraries, Emerald Object Library and Windy Things, have also been used. All parking spots have been added, ground materials are matched to fit real life, and objects from the fs-base library have been added to improve realism. The runway/taxiway signs have been edited to match the real taxiway designations, and VASI/PAPI lights have been added to both runways with approach slopes matching those in real life.
The author has released two updates, version 1.1 and 1.1.5, which have included various improvements to the scenery. In version 1.1, a dike and picnic area were added before Runway 26, the row hangars were remodeled, and the ground textures around them were improved. Taxiway lighting and designation signs were also fixed. In version 1.1.5, the "remove_all_vehicles" script was removed, which was supposed to disable ground vehicles at Pearson but ended up disabling vehicles everywhere. The author has a roadmap for future updates, which includes adding the Airfield Headquarters house and the Transpolar Flight Monument in the next update. They may also add interiors to some hangars and lights to all buildings, but other than that, the scenery is as close to reality as they can get at this point.
