M'M Simulations Releases Vilnius International Airport

The flight simulation community can explore a new destination with the recent release of M'M Simulations' detailed rendition of Vilnius International Airport (EYVI/VNO) for Microsoft Flight Simulator. This scenery offers simmers an authentic experience of Lithuania's capital city's primary gateway. Vilnius Airport, located a few miles from the city center, has a history dating back to 1932 when it primarily served as a domestic airfield. Initially known as Wilno-Porubanek, the airport connected to Warsaw, Kaunas, and Riga, establishing itself as an important transportation link for the region.

Architectural Development and Wartime Use

The airport's first passenger terminal, built between 1934 and 1936, was a modernist architecture achievement by Józefa Mrówkowa-Ochmańska. This structure featured various amenities, including a restaurant, hotel, and post office. During World War II, the airport was repurposed as a military airfield, resuming passenger services in mid-1944. In the post-war period, the airport saw significant changes to accommodate growing air travel demand. A new terminal building was constructed between 1949 and 1954. Further expansion occurred in 1993 with a new departure terminal and in late 2007 with a state-of-the-art terminal building, increasing the total terminal area to 3,462 square meters. The Lithuanian government has financed an expansion project at Vilnius Airport, scheduled for completion in early 2025. This project includes a new 14,400-square-meter departure terminal, doubling the airport's passenger throughput to 2,400 passengers per hour.

Virtual Representation

M'M Simulations has accurately replicated Vilnius International Airport in Microsoft Flight Simulator, including the terminal and interior, custom night lighting, parking positions, and surroundings. The scenery features elements such as a custom shuttle train, realistic sound effects, and animated airport objects, using technologies like PBR materials, parallax effects, and real-world-based terraforming profiles.

M'M Simulations' Vilnius Airport scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator is now available for purchase on Flightsim.to for €18.99 excl. VAT, requiring a minimum of 5.61 GB of free hard disk space for installation.
