Navigraph Introduces Scratchpads Note-Taking Feature in Charts App

Navigraph has released a new “Scratchpads” feature for its Charts application on March 3, 2026. The update introduces integrated note-taking tools designed to allow users to record flight-related information directly within the app during flight planning and operations. The feature allows you to create structured notes without relying on external tools such as paper notes or separate applications. Scratchpads are available across all supported Navigraph Charts platforms, including desktop, tablet, and mobile devices, with synchronization between devices connected to the same Navigraph account.

The addition responds to long-standing requests from parts of the flight simulation community for integrated note-taking within navigation tools. In practice, virtual pilots often need to record information such as air traffic control instructions, frequency changes, and route updates while operating in the simulator, particularly when flying on online networks like VATSIM or IVAO.

The feature introduces several templates intended to organize common aviation workflows. One of the main additions is a CRAFT template for recording IFR clearances. The template provides fields for Clearance limit, Route, Altitude, Frequency, and Transponder code. Other templates include formats for pilot reports (PIREPs), ATIS information, takeoff and landing data (TOLD), and Out/Off/On/In time tracking commonly used in virtual airline operations.

Scratchpads integrate with the existing Navigraph Charts environment, which provides Jeppesen navigation charts updated according to the AIRAC cycle, along with flight planning and navigation data used by various flight simulation platforms. Notes can be created within the chart pinboard interface, and the application supports stylus input on compatible tablet devices.

Scratchpads are included as part of existing Navigraph subscriptions and do not require an additional purchase. The feature is available immediately across supported platforms, including Windows and macOS desktop versions, as well as iOS and Android mobile and tablet versions.

The Scratchpads feature expands the workflow tools available within the Navigraph Charts ecosystem by integrating note-taking alongside existing chart and flight planning functionality. It is intended to simplify the process of recording operational information during simulated flights without requiring external tools or applications. For more information, visit the Navigraph Blog.
