New Seaplane Base: CBF8 Muncho Lake Water Aerodrome

Tucked into the Rocky Mountains of northern British Columbia, Muncho Lake is one of Canada's most striking natural features - a deep, turquoise glacial lake stretching for roughly eleven kilometres along the Alaska Highway. At mile 462 of that legendary road sits the Northern Rockies Lodge, a rustic log hotel and wilderness outfitter that has served travellers, anglers, and adventure-seekers for decades. Alongside the lodge, the private seaplane base designated CBF8 provides floatplane and amphibious aircraft access to some of the most remote and spectacular wilderness in North America. From here, pilots and passengers have historically departed for Nahanni National Park — Canada's first UNESCO World Heritage Site — to witness the thundering Virginia Falls, which stand nearly twice the height of Niagara.

It's the kind of destination that speaks directly to the bush flying spirit, and now, thanks to freeware developer MulberryWing, it has a proper home in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

While CBF8 technically existed in the simulator's default database prior to this release, it amounted to little more than a named point on the map — no water runways, no docks, and a scattering of autogenerated buildings bearing no resemblance to the actual lodge grounds. MulberryWing has remedied that in considerable detail. Working from satellite imagery, web photographs, and the 2025 Canada Water Aerodrome Supplement, the developer has reconstructed the aerodrome area to reflect its real-world layout with care and accuracy.

The centrepiece of the add-on is a set of four floatplane docks and one boat dock, faithfully placed to match their positions as seen in satellite views of the site. One dock is occupied by a static Cessna Caravan amphibian, while three others offer parking spaces for floatplanes or amphibious aircraft. A concrete ramp marked with red barrels connects the waterfront to a gravel apron and a large hangar, and a dedicated parking position near the hangar accommodates a medium-sized amphibian. One dock carries a clear floatplane-only designation with jet-A fuel available dockside.

MulberryWing has added a water runway designated 18W/36W allowing you to begin a flight positioned on the lake surface. The CTAF frequency of 123.2 MHz, which is mandatory for reporting within five nautical miles of the aerodrome, has also been incorporated. Beyond the water operations area, the developer has hand-built four log cabins representing the lodge's accommodation facilities, positioned across from the floatplane docks.

Installation is straightforward — unzip the download and place the folder into your MSFS 2024 Community folder. One dependency is required: to display the floatplane docks correctly, you'll also need to install the Seaplane Asset Library by 30West, which is also available on Flightsim.to.
