Ralph Wien Memorial Airport Freeware Released

Ralph Wien Memorial Airport, located in Kotzebue, Alaska, is a critical aviation hub in the state's far northwest. Positioned just above the Arctic Circle on the Baldwin Peninsula, it serves as the primary gateway for the Northwest Arctic Borough. As the eighth busiest airport in Alaska, it plays a key role in connecting remote communities through daily jet service to Anchorage and Nome, along with regional air taxi, cargo, and mail operations. The airport is adjacent to the city of Kotzebue, also known by its Iñupiat name “Kikiktagruk”, a settlement with deep indigenous roots and a population of around 3,500.

TheReal.K3V's new add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator brings Ralph Wien Memorial into the sim with a detailed custom recreation. The first release, now available, covers the airport’s main runway (09/27), apron, and associated buildings. This scenery includes fully custom 3D structures based on their real-world counterparts, enhanced with multiple texture layers to simulate wear, PBR materials, and custom night lighting. Hundreds of handcrafted and handplaced models help reflect the layout and atmosphere of this northern Alaskan airport.

Designed with performance in mind, the models meet the MSFS 2024 Level of Detail standards, ensuring a balance between visual fidelity and smooth performance. Future updates will expand the scenery to include the secondary runway (18/36), the city of Kotzebue itself, and surrounding areas, all with continued focus on realism and regional context. You can download the scenery for free from Flightsim.to: PAOT - Ralph Wien Memorial Airport.
