Troglodytus Updates Austrian Landmark Project

The Austrian Landmark Project (ALP) by developers Littlekrg and Troglodytus continues to enhance the visual experience for virtual pilots flying over Austria in Microsoft Flight Simulator. Initially sparked by a sense of dissatisfaction with World Update 6, this ongoing project aims to improve Austria's landscape, adding a rich array of landmarks, points of interest (POIs), and VFR points to make the flying experience more enjoyable. With each update, ALP seeks to bring both historical and natural sites to life.

In this latest update, the ALP not only refines previously released models but also introduces new, high-quality landmarks and animated features. Key additions include iconic UNESCO World Heritage sites like Semmering Kalte Rinne Viaduct and Hallstatt, as well as the Wachau region, home to several photogrammetry scans courtesy of talented contributors. The update also showcases famous castles, churches, and towers, such as Hochosterwitz Castle, the Graz Clocktower, and the Kolnbrein Dam. Some of these landmarks have been completely retextured, while others are new, ensuring that Austria’s breathtaking landmarks are more vibrant and accurate than ever.

As of version 0.8, the Austrian Landmark Project has undergone a comprehensive overhaul in light of World Update 18. Several landmarks previously included in ALP, such as the Dobratsch Radiotower, Pyramidenkogel Observation Tower, and Aggstein Castle, have been removed from the package, as they are now part of World Update 18’s official content. However, the update maintains ALP’s unique models for landmarks like the Patscherkofel Radiotower and the Europabridge in Innsbruck, which offer higher detail compared to their default Asobo counterparts. Exciting new additions in this update include custom photogrammetry models of Burgruine Landskron, Hochzeitsschloss Gloggnitz, and Burgruine Klamm, as well as a complete remodelling of the Kölnbreinsperre Dam, using original construction plans to ensure accuracy. Numerous elevation and bug fixes have also been implemented, making this update one of the most refined versions to date.

For those looking to enhance their flight simulation experience over Austria, the Austrian Landmark Project is available for download, with installation as simple as dragging the extracted folder into the community folder. As with previous updates, the developers recommend users also install Fisherman Dave's 3D people to further enrich the environment. If you find the Austrian Landmark Project a valuable addition to your virtual skies, consider supporting the developers with a donation to help them continue bringing Austria’s landmarks to life in the simulator.
