Tumbleweed Releases Freeware KAEG - Double Eagle II Airport

KAEG Double Eagle II Airport, located just 7 miles northwest of downtown Albuquerque, is the second-largest airport in the region and a key hub for general aviation in central New Mexico. Known for its ILS approach and two runways, it is a popular destination for GA pilots. However, until now, KAEG had been lacking a detailed scenery package for flight simulators — despite its importance. Community Developer Tumbleweed has now addressed this gap with the release of a highly detailed rendition of KAEG for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Tumbleweed's scenery aims to capture the unique feel of the airport by providing custom-built hangars, buildings, and objects, ensuring that every structure is true to life. The runways, taxiways, and aprons have been entirely rebuilt, and additional features like custom ground markings, airport fencing, and a fully operational fuel station are included. New parking spots, a helipad with a hot start, and a number of standard assets carefully placed around the airport enhance its functionality and realism.

The airport's terrain has been refined using high-resolution digital elevation data from the US Geological Survey (USGS), which brings detailed features such as trenches and overflow basins into the simulation. Although the terrain data adds a touch of realism, the developer notes that it may cause some bumpiness in the airport's surface, slightly more than what pilots might experience in real life.

Taxiway edge lights and night lighting are not perfect yet, and you may notice some imperfections in these areas. Installation is straightforward: Download the freeware on Flightsim.to,  unzip the downloaded package and place the folder into your Community folder. No additional libraries are required. If you're a fan of exploring the skies of New Mexico, this add-on is a must-have. As always, consider supporting the developer to help them continue their excellent work in bringing underrepresented airports to life in Microsoft Flight Simulator.
