Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (KDTW) is a major international airport in the United States, located in Romulus, Michigan, and serving the Detroit metropolitan area. It is one of the busiest airports in the country, serving as a major hub for both Delta Air Lines and Spirit Airlines. The airport has two main terminals: the McNamara Terminal and the North Terminal, with a range of domestic and international flights. The latest update for the KDTW - Detroit Metro Wayne Airport scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator, created by OltcitRoom, brings significant enhancements and optimizations, though it is still a developer version. In version 2.3, the airport is fully functional, but the interior terminals are not yet complete.
One of the key updates includes the necessity of the Animated Human 3D Models Library by superspud. OltcitRoom emphasizes that the airport’s flying aspects — such as runways, taxiways, taxi signs, and gates — have been updated according to Navigraph charts and are designed to work with default ATC and online networks like Vatsim or Pilotedge.
The ILS frequencies have been aligned and updated for all runways supporting the instrument landing system. Exterior terminal textures have been applied, although some may not be perfect as the work is ongoing. Notably, the tunnel under runway 09L-27R and taxiways V and F is still a work in progress, with some ground mesh issues due to the limitations of the SDK provided by Asobo. Airport ground traffic is generally functional but may have occasional pathing issues. Additionally, while airliners have been assigned specific gates, this assignment is not always effective, even with AIG traffic. This matter is under continuous testing and improvement.
The recent enhancements in version 2.3 include improved McNamara terminal textures, combined textures for better CPU performance, new buildings around the FedEx hub, custom jetways, jetway sounds and dynamic lights, corrected missing textures, enhanced apron colors, aligned taxiway lights, and the addition of animated characters through an external library.
To install the update, you should delete the older version of KDTW from their community folder and extract the latest version to the same location.
